    Author Q&A

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.

Well, I’m a family man and passionate about sport, marketing, economics and geo-politics and for my eternal pain support Everton Football Club. I founded the Churchill World Order Series, after the great man and his lessons in leadership, which we could all do with now in this chaotic and troubled world. History does not repeat itself but certainly chimes, and I use those lessons in history to address current days challenges. I’m on my fourth book in this series and five in total, as I started in 2001 with a marketing book.

What were your earliest memories of reading and books?

Well, that has to be getting The Chronicles of Narnia Collection by C.S. Lewis as a present on Christmas Day. Especially the all inspiring The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Imagination running wild that behind every wardrobe could be a fantastical new world ad adventures to be had.

What inspired you to write your first book?

It was the One2One Marketing books written by Don Pepper and Martha Rogers. They inspired me to build upon my real-life experiences, and I published All To One Marketing, with McGraw Hill, which added real live corporate customer experiences to the One2One concepts.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

Definitely Winston Churchill, one of the greatest leaders and writers of all time – I love some of his quotations and word gymnastics. A very inspirational man and spirit.

Do you write an outline before every book you write?

Yes, this is the most important thing. The working title comes first along with the overall concept. Then I write the ingredients, it’s like building up a recipe. From there I do my research in part from my own experience, but also through Google searches on rough topics I remember vaguely. This research then flows like a journey that is aligned with the themes and holds everything together. Things like historic events, personal anecdotes and famous quotations adds embroidery to the main story.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?

It is The Lifecycle of Intelligence inspired by the great AI explosion and the dichotomy of being immensely valuable, powerful and scary at the same time. This book looks at the great leaders in history and how they met great technological change through values-based leadership. Based on their teachings I have built an AI Charter, AI Maturity Model and an AI Governance Manifesto all shared in the book and intended for real life use by government, politicians, corporate and the global institutions.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?

I still keep just to KDP Amazon and I am trialing Video ads for the first time – I have everything crossed for this latest book in the series. I’ve now taken the leap to get my own ISBN’s so will start to explore other channels to markets like my local retail stores.

What’s next for you as a writer?

I’m currently writing a LinkedIn campaign called The AI Governance Leadership Challenge: Building the Leadership Framework for the Machine Age. This is 90 editions of how leadership can impact how we meet the challenge – quite a task. I hope to generate a lot of discussion on a most topical and critical subject. I will publish a case studies report from that. I have a few more topics to write in the Churchill World Order Series, one of which will be about the global environment and climate change pressures.
