Dr. Ping Xu Moroney is a Chinese-born artist and educator in the Warwick Central Valley New York area, known for her vibrant oil and watercolor paintings, especially landscapes of the local region, and her deviation to teaching Chinese at Warwick High School, where she shares her culture and artistic skills through Ping Gallery. She holds a doctorate degree in Education and offers art classes and commissions.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have taught Chinese in both private and public schools in the United States for decades. My teaching experiences inspired me to create educational books for my students. Every year, my students use my books to learn about the Chinese zodiac and Chinese language. I have written several educational books and continue to develop new learning materials.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Chinese Zodiac: Learn Chinese Calligraphy. My desire to help students learn Chinese and succeed on the AAPPL exam inspired me to create this book.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to paint first. A picture is worth a thousand words. After completing the artwork, I add the writing and organize the book around the illustrations.
What authors, artists, or books have influenced you?
I have been influenced by Leonardo da Vinci, John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, and the Chinese artist Bada Shanren (八大山人). Their creativity, artistic vision, and dedication continue to inspire my work.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a travel book about China, a Chinese food book, and a comprehensive 365 Day Chinese book that will exceed 400 pages.

Follow your heart and your passion. Write about what you know and care about.

“One day at a time.”

I am currently reading Babylon, South Dakota by Tom Lin.
What’s next for you as a writer?
My goal is to become a full-time writer.
