Seventeen-year-old Alexa Cross is desperate to get to Broadway, but when she receives a failing math grade, hopes of a scholarship disappear. Now she’ll need her father’s help to achieve her dream. The only problem is he doesn’t consider her choice of careers to be sensible and after the pain her family has suffered, Alexa can’t go against his wishes. Trapped between a family she loves and her love of the stage, Alexa will have to find another way to achieve her dream or settle for what her father wants.

West Howell does his best to keep his head down and go unnoticed. It’s easier to be cut off than to try to explain to people why he’s so screwed up. After all, he can’t afford to get into any more trouble. When he’s recruited to tutor the hot, prissy girl from math, he never expects to fall in love with her. Or that she might be the one person who can relate to him.

Together, they may find a way to heal each other and get what they both desperately need, as long as Alexa’s father doesn’t decide that the one thing worse than his daughter’s love of the stage is her love for West.

Jiminella “Jinx” Sweetwater is a genius. She’s a scholar, an inventor, hardworking and loyal, and well known in the scientific circles around the University in Prosper City.

Being smarter than everyone else might seem like a good thing, but it isn’t. At least, it isn’t to Jinx who has two friends, a small condo, and no life.

After a fight with her best friend Wilder, it just gets worse. Someone breaks into her home and when her parents show up in all their hippie-like glory, Jinx has had enough and escapes to a small village by the sea.

Suddenly, Jinx finds herself involved in village life, living with the unpleasant Mrs. Fratinelli and trying her best to juggle all the things that seem to end up on her plate. And then there’s calm, cool and gorgeous Dante – Snow’s boyfriend, who seems to see right through the shields Jinx has put up around herself, straight into her mind.

And then there’s Mac, with his green eyes and a soft voice that flows through her like sweet honey. He’s there to help Wilder when she needs it the most, and as she struggles with how to fit into the group of people around her dad – having Mac in her life becomes more important with every bad thing that happens.

From the Author:
wilder-author-lena-northThe proper way to put it here would probably be to describe how I love to play with our two big dogs, adore my fantastic daughters and how much I love to read.

Another way would be to use my imagination and then I would be a super powerful warrior woman, think Xena the warrior princess (though with less tacky clothes). Or when I think of it, maybe I’m actually more of a Hercule Poirot (sans the suit and moustache). Or maybe I’m like Aragorn, strong and cool and then I might get to meet Gandalf! Or I could be Bella’s pretty cousin and snap Jacob up in a second (yeah, I’m so not team Edward), or wait, maybe I could be like one of them heroines in historical novels who swoon all the time. I’ve always wanted to swoon…

Well, I guess you get how my mind is working (or not working, some say). Anyways, I like to write. Stories, adventures, romantic and happy stuff mixed up with sorrow and hardship, and bit of laughter here and there because the way I see it – life is way too short to go around feeling grumpy.

YA Coming of Age – My Ladybird Story

My Ladybird StoryMy Ladybird Story
By Magus Tor
Publisher: Beyond His Words
Published: February 2015
ISBN: 978-1517309633
ASIN: B00TPB2AYY
Genre: YA, Coming of Age

John Bird has never fit in. He can’t be the all American boy his dad wants him to be, he’s bullied at school and he can’t bear to look at himself in the mirror. While most boys his age are playing sports and kissing girls, John can only find comfort in the secret he keeps hidden away in a box in his room…

When feisty Aureus crashes into his life, John starts the long process of realizing that it’s what is inside us that counts and that true friends love us, no matter what our secrets are.

It’s time John learns to embrace the school taunt, “Ladybird” and grow into the person he is meant to be.

Praise for My Ladybird Story:
*****5 stars***** “My Ladybird Story by Magus Tor was a fascinating read for me. While I cannot speak from experience, the story of how John slowly makes the transition from hating his body, to understanding the source of the hate, and then moving towards the solution (i.e. the transformation into a woman) was very realistic and very emotional, too. The writing was well done, and you could not help but feel for John. His fears and emotions were very well described, and I liked that the reactions of the people around him also seemed to be very realistic, i.e. not just “Oh yeah, it’s all fine.” I enjoyed reading this book very much. It had a nice flow, and shows that you don’t need action and violence to make a story stand out.” By Kim Anisi for Readers’ Favorite

“… An inspiring, empowering chronicle of self-discovery and fearless pride sure to entertain and inform both cisgender and transgender readers.” Kirkus Reviews

“I admire the confidence of Tor in approaching the subject so unwaveringly. If you’re looking for a basic story of young love, friendship, and identity focusing on the subject of what it is to be transgender, this is a story of hope at its core. The intention of the material and its positive outlook for LGBT issues should be applauded.” 3. 5 stars on Self-Publishing Review

“… Magus Tor honors those who are mistreated and bullied for the beautiful souls they truly are. The writing was so clear it made it easy to understand the fascinating and love-filled plot from beginning to end. My Ladybird Story is absolutely unforgettable. I didn’t want to lay it down. The message within its pages reaches far beyond just the transgender and lesbian communities. It truly is a message filled with light and love that can touch the heart and soul of anyone has ever experienced feeling as though he or she was an outcast. I highly recommend reading Magus Tor’s My Ladybird Story.” – 5/5 Originally reviewed by Liz Cooper of AuthorsTalkAboutIt.com.

6.0/10 “Tor’s YA novel is a sensitive but preachy story about a boy named John Bird — called Ladybird by his classmates — struggling with his sexuality and gender. While John is well developed and the author ably expresses his protagonist’s feelings and thoughts, the reaction to John’s transition is unrealistic and will take readers out of the story. The prose and story are workmanlike, but the pacing sometimes slows and some minor characters are underdeveloped.” – Review by The BookLife Prize in Fiction

My Ladybird Story Author Magus TorAbout the Author:
Magus Tor is a dreamer who enjoys dreaming varied dreams of being a doctor, a lawyer, a police officer and a teacher but never in the wildest dream to become a writer. Since starting to write in 2007, Magus continues to explore creating worlds in his imaginative mind. Although he wishes to specialize in writing fantasy but his mind twisted his will and he ended up writing more Science Fiction than Fantasy. So far, his only fantasy novella is D-Nine: Protectors of the Crown.

selected-author-evelyn-ledermanAbout the Author:
Evelyn Lederman cannot remember if her first crush was on Paul McCartney or James T. Kirk. Either way, Science Fiction has always been a part of her life. When it came to write her first Young Adult novel, she chose the genre closest to her heart.

She lives in Florida with her cats, her tennis racquets, and her beach bag all packed and ready to go. Like her main character in ‘Selected’, she loves the beach. Most of her literary inspiration occurs while walking along a sandy shore.

Her two adult series, Worlds Apart and Nightshade Saga are about parallel dimensions and soul mates.
